Ha! Broad Breasted Bronze, if I'm not mistaken. What are they doing terrorizing your Mum's neighbourhood like a bunch of toughs?

There's the funny thing--turkeys, apparently the Broad Breasted Bronze (good to know)--are not native to No. California. They were never around when I was a kid, now there are hundreds.

So the story goes, a rich guy in the 1980s wanted to have a turkey shoot and imported them to his land. They were not all killed and the remaining turkeys flourished--and have multiplied ever since! ACK. They do actually surround cars and peck at people all over No.California.

Turkeys used to be native in my mother's area, but declined sharply when agriculture really took off. Then they were reintroduced for hunting, and spread like wildfire. When I visit Mama we often see them on the edge of the field. (Says something about the success of the hunters. *BG*)

And turkeys must lay a lot of eggs!

Interesting lesson/story!

I'm surprised he was actually allowed to host a turkey shoot.

I know there are wild chickens in Hawaii that attack people, the turkeys would be more dangerous.

Has anyone thought about catching some for Thanksgiving or Christmas? LOL

I did always wonder how he got a turkey shoot permit.
