"Rejoice in Retrograde!" [a poem]

Jul 24, 2012 04:24

[Rationalists, please suspend your disbelief long enough to skip to the poetry and read it. :) Thanks!]

I know it seems something of an oxymoron to say that Mercury Retrograde (traditionally blamed for communication and travel snafus for 3-ish weeks 3 to 4 times a year) has been responsible for something good.  I've read several Astrological essays over the years, however, that say that it's all about choosing one's activities wisely during a period of Mercury Retrograde.  In particular, one writer put it succinctly that during MR one should focus on things with "re-" in the word, like "reviewing," "reflecting," or "reconnecting." It's not a good time to START things, in other words, but it can be a fine time to review, renew, or refine them.

It was hardly intentional, but this effect (or this practice or belief, if you aren't into Astrology; I'm not attached to the astrological significance here...) has shown itself strongly for me in this past week, as I've reconnected with someone I dated in High School, and have, until this week, been out of contact with for more than 30 years. The full story is not really ready for public consumption (and may never be), but suffice to say we're pretty pleased by how well this process has gone so far. We're still catching up (and probably will be for some time,) but in the meantime, I've been inspired to write the following poem celebrating this reconnection so far.  It's in a style I've never written before, largely inspired by fuzzydragon's work.

Enjoy!

Rejoice in Retrograde!

A retrograde revolution
revolutionizes our renewal,
renewing redemption
and redeeming regrets
so regretfully regarded.

Regarding reconnection:
we reconnect relievedly,
relieving remorse
so remorselessly rendered
over rending the relationship.

Relating reviewed;
reviews now received,
receive now rejoinders
of rejoining and re-ligating
religiously restored.

With restored respect
respecting our relating,
relate our reassurances,
reassuring relatives
relatively recent.

Though recently restrained,
Restraint now remove
Removing reluctance
reluctantly required.
Require now only rejoicing!
