Summary: Dave made lots of plans. But, as he reasoned he should have figured out by now, plans had a way of falling apart. Especially when those plans involved Kurt Hummel.

I thought maybe, I thought this would go away
But it continues, the only constant, every day, stronger
I will use my voice, and I will use my fist
To destroy everything I can.
Now I know what this is all about.
Now I know exactly what I am.

Dave had come up with a plan. It wasn’t much of a plan but it was a plan. He was gonna lie low. He was gonna leave Kurt alone for a while, let them both cool off a bit, and then pull him aside and talk to him. No Fury, no shoving, no nothing, just talk to him and promise to leave him alone in exchange for his continued silence on the issue of the Locker Room Incident.

Dave made lots of plans. But, as he reasoned he should have figured out by now, plans had a way of falling apart. Especially when those plans involved Kurt Hummel.

Instead of ignoring Kurt, he’d winked at him. Winked. At Kurt. In the middle of a cafeteria full of people. It was as though his eyelid had a mind of its own; he’d been unable to stop it. The theory he’d come up with, laying there on his bed and replaying the moment over and over in his head, was that the Incident had created a crack in the dam holding back the giant Reservoir of Gay that was somewhere inside him, and now little bits were trickling through. It was only a matter of time before the whole thing burst and he started, like, disco dancing through the halls while wearing eyeliner and leather hotpants, critiquing his classmates’ fashion choices and singing showtunes with a lisp.

Ugh, no. That thought might have broken his brain a little bit.

No, he had to end this. He had to put it all to rest, make sure that Kurt knew that no one else could ever hear about this. That he’d told Pretty Boy was bad enough…he could not tell anyone else. Everything would fall apart if he did. Maybe he couldn’t wait. Maybe he had to talk to Kurt now, and maybe once they reached an understanding, he could plug up the crack in the dam, and things could get back to normal.

A couple of days later, Dave spotted him, next to his locker, talking to Mercedes, and as she walked away he knew he had his chance. He grabbed Kurt by the shoulder, a little more roughly than he’d meant to, and turned him around. “Question for you,” he said to start, then decided he had to keep going before he lost his nerve. “You tell anyone else what happened? How you-” he looked down; yeah, he couldn’t say it in the hall, not with everyone here, “…k-kissed me?” He hoped Kurt would understand, pleaded in his mind that Kurt would understand why he couldn’t say…

“You kissed me, Karofsky,” Kurt replied, and almost automatically Dave shushed him, glancing over his shoulder, and thankfully no one seemed to have heard, so he turned his attention back to Kurt, “and I understand how hard this is for you to deal with, so no, I haven’t told anyone.”

“Good. You keep it that way,” he replied as a wave of relief coursed through him. Kurt hadn’t told. He wouldn’t tell. Would he? The thought of another public confrontation with Kurt and his pretty-boy boyfriend simultaneously made his skin crawl and his blood boil. Dave had to make sure. “Cause if you do? I am gonna kill you.” He stared at Kurt for just a moment to make sure he’d heard, then walked on past him, the look on Kurt’s face burned into his brain. Something was weird about that look.

It was only much later that Kurt’s facial expression really processed. Shit. Kurt didn’t think Dave would actually kill him, did he? God, he was always telling the guys he was going to kill them for stupid shit, like that time Mitchell hid his Smurfs boxers in Coach's office after practice, or when Azimio threatened to show the rest of the team Dave’s baby book after he found it in the basement. Jesus, did Kurt really think that Dave would…no. Dave might have pushed him into a few lockers but there’s a big step from that to killing. Kurt would know that.

It didn’t matter now anyway. He’d kissed Kurt, and Kurt had rejected him, and yeah, that fucking hurt, but he’d promised not to tell anyone, and that was that. They didn’t have to like each other. They didn’t have to be friends or anything. Hell, they could even go on hating each other. Just, as long as neither of them said anything it could all be over. Kurt would never care about him even as a friend, let alone anything more, so all he had to do was ignore him and with time, he’d forget what he had ever liked about the kid.

Yeah. Right. Cause that had always worked so well for him before.
