The wedding is a little over a month away, and things are falling into place nicely. We only have small things to finish up with, like picking up vases and getting seating arrangements worked out. We're meeting with Roy this Sunday to go over some more ceremony-related things, and I think it's going to be a wonderful ceremony. We're still waiting on some RSVPs before giving final counts to anyone about anything, and I've been looking into the paperwork I need to fill out to get my name changed.
On the unfortunate side of things, I've been gaining some weight as of recently, due to various reasons which include stress and being too tired to go to the gym as often as I used to, but I'm hoping to quell that a bit by making sure I'm eating healthily and getting exercise. Source of stress? Job hunting, wedding planning, uncertainty about whether or not we'll be moving a week or two after the wedding.
On the job front: the search has been concentrated to the Milwaukee area and the Baltimore area, as we're looking towards places where we can be nearest to family. I had a great job interview last week at a charter school in Milwaukee that I would love to teach at, and I should know by the end of this week (which means today or tomorrow!) whether or not I'll be offered that position. In waiting to hear about that position (the only real interview I've ever had for a teaching job) I have been applying to other places in a frenzy. Not always to teaching jobs, but to youth-related positions in Milwaukee, and also to more teaching jobs on the east coast.
Tuesday I had a phone interview with Washington DC schools. Their interview process is complex-- it starts with the application, and from there candidates move to the phone interview, then to a panel interview in DC and from there you meet with principals to try to get a position at a specific school. I was excited to hear I'd been selected for a phone interview (it makes me feel like less of a failure at getting a job, somehow) and although I talk a LOT during all phone interviews, I think it went well. In fact, I know it went well because I got an email last night inviting me to DC sometime this month for the panel interview. I haven't replied yet.
I want to wait until I hear about the position in Milwaukee before arranging a time for the panel interview. There was another position that I was very interested in in Milwaukee, as well, with the same company that my mom did foster care for several years, and I was hoping that if something didn't come through with the charter school that this would be another good option. Flying out for another interview is a scary thought, especially in a city I don't know with no one there to meet me this time. I google mapped the distance from Reagan to the interview site, and it's only 7 miles away, but it's a city I don't know at all and that thought scares me. At the same time, moving somewhere like Washington DC would probably be an amazing experience. Even looking at the google maps street view of where the interview is, it's obvious how beautiful of a city DC is.
So what to do from here? The current plan is to wait to find out what happens with the job in Milwaukee, obviously. I had a dream last night that I got a call from the principal and, very excited, asked if I got the job. She simply said, "No," and hung up. She's so much sweeter than that, but the thought of calling to find out the status of the position is still terrifying. No news is not good news, but it's better than bad news? I'll call this morning. After that point, I guess I will set up a flight to DC for that interview. Keeping all options open. That's what I need to do.
Zac said last night that he wouldn't be surprised if I accepted a job and then a month or so later got more than one call about an offer for a position. Since I've heard nothing back from Baltimore City since turning in all of my materials, despite trying to contact them, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this happens. I should be so lucky.
Last recent happening: No longer addicted to Diet Coke. No longer drink hardly any soda, save for the occasional diet and caffeine free cream soda a few times a week. Instead, I now drink an estimated 3L of water a day.
