Various subtleties in this painting brought back memories of Corduroy. I'm sure that's not the expected or intended response from the imagery, but I just had to share because its so weird. :} If you haven't read the book (or perhaps if it has been a while since reading it), the story goes that Corduroy is a toy bear in a department store. He wears green overalls, but with one button missing for one of the overall straps... So one night he goes out to search for the missing button and ends up in the store's bed/mattress department.
Anyway, I won't go into the details of the story, but three elements caused my crazy mind to make the association. First, the rufous-red color predominant in the painting brought to mind the book's cover. Second, of course, the numerous beds in the painting. Third, the heroine of the story is a girl named Lisa. :}
My mathematical/gemoetric side likes the perspective of this image. I like how you can look "up" and "down" on a two dimensional space. Good use of the large canvas size... It's also interesting because there's good use of visual space, in contrast with the modern department stores in this area which would never have such a large, vacant architecture for the sake of aesthetics alone. In that sense, I think I would like to visit this place more than my local Sears, even if there's nothing I'm shopping for there. :} Was this inspired by a real location, or is it from your imagination (or perhaps a combination)?
I had my own random-heart episode prior to Valentine's Day as well... I probably shouldn't mention it since I owe you a batch of cookies, but I was making these oatmeal chocolate chip cookies on Feb. 10. This one cookie in the second to last cookie sheet ended up shaped like a heart unintentionally. It's kind of amusing because I proceeded to try and shape the last few cookies into hears and of about six attempts, only one or two actually came out as well as the unintentional original. :}
Corduroy! I do remember that story from childhood. Not least of which was due to my name being an element ;) What a curious connection. I wonder if he could have been hinding in my subconcious?

It is a combination. There are elements of different local malls, as well as items from those locations. But this painting in particular contains a lot of information I have created or reimagined.
As for your cookie incident. I happened to make cookies for V-day for my fellow graduates (and a particular valentine of mine). They were cut-out sugarcookies. It wasn't until I got to the cutting part that I realized I couldn't find any heart-shaped cookie cutters in our massive collection (my mom's). So I improvised and bent a circle cutter into a heart. I liked the imperfect hand-quality shape it created better than the machine perfection.
