Hotlinkers vs. Icon makers

Jan 15, 2012 11:18

For all of you, hotlinkers, who come at LiveJournal, steal icons, redestribute them while hotlinking them.
For all of you, LiveJournal users, who make icons.

These: click & click, are two of the many blogs/forums/etc. which take icons from LiveJournal, repost and hotlink, which causes problems with the bandwidth.

Good:
LiveJournal users enjoy making icons, they upload them and post them in their journals/communities. Other users (not only from LiveJournal) come, take icons, tell the maker about it, upload them to their own account at Photobucket/etc. and credit.
Result: everyone is happy.

Bad:
LiveJournal users enjoy making icons, they upload them and post them in their journals/communities. Other users (mainly from other sites) come, take icons, don't bother to upload them to their own account at Photobucket/etc. but just directly hotlink them and don't credit.
Result: it's a theft and hotlinking causes "bandwidth exceed"

Also:
Why is crediting good? - Because when someone sees a pretty icon and wants go get more of those, credit is the link to the maker.
Why is commenting good? - Because comments make us, icon makers, smile. Because when you say which icons you like, we know what type of icons to make in the future.
