Fundies in Undies and Other Weekend Antics

Dec 18, 2005 12:10

Friday was The Doomed Holiday Concert at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. I call it "doomed" because, of course, it was tainted from the get-go by that snafu earlier in the week, which has yet to be resolved by the way, although the 'gund (my evil half) is going to poke the sleeping monster later today.

But then, I also have a habit of talking really loud in public.

Me too! Not like I can help it. But the entire Cheeburger Cheeburger restaurant probably knew about my familial difficulties after Bobby and I discussed it while waiting for our inlaws to arrive.

I guess those sitting around me found it somehow funny, how I was sitting there practically fuming, but it's something I just can't stand since it's incredibly hard to follow what's going on when there's some idiots who think they have to applaud at everything only remotely funny. Argh.

I can see how that would be annoying. Very annoying. I'd imagine it's distracting to the actors too.

I perform in rollerskating shows and people like to applaud at what they think are Impressive Moves (tm). The problem is that what they think are Impressive Moves rarely are, and while I'm dreading breaking my neck on a jump for which they're like, "Eh."

As a result, I generally spend most of my time out of the floor, trying to predict what they're going to applaud for. Kinda makes me feel like a dancing bear or something. ;)

Oh, not good. ;-) Perhaps you should hand them out little flyers, informing them about "impressive moves" and "not so impressive" moves. But then they would have to check everytime if they're allowed to applaud or not and wouldn't be able to follow your show anymore. Ok, I admit: crappy idea. :-P

But rollerkating? That's impressive. Some time ago I did a little bit of inline skating, but I was never good (but I was damned fast!!). I haven't use my sinfully expensive inline skates in years...

Yep. I couldn't take up anything *normal* like knitting. ;) Actually, I'm terrible on inline skates or ice skates; my rollerskates are the old school quads. You know, the kind everyone thinks died in the '70s. ;)

I can't complain, really, about some of their applause for Unimpressive Moves (tm). For example, I do a helluva spiral, which is really easy for me, but I like to hold it for six or seven seconds to see if they applaud for the duration of it. (They usually do!)

I'm not a very fast skater. At my freestyle club's open house the other day, Hubby beat me easily in a race with his inlines.

Oh, they certainly didn't! I still had some of those until inline skates got really big. But I always found inline skates easier to control than the "old school" skates. So I'm doubly impressed. :-)

Well, I may be fast, but unfortunately I've never become skilled in stopping again... that's not exactly an advantage, I tell you. ;-)

There's definitely a very noticeable difference in edges between inlines and quads, hence that inlines seem easier to control, I think. Hubby plays ice hockey, and I feel very insecure when I go to skate with him because I'm used to really feeling for an edge...but when you do that in an ice skate (or an inline), you topple over.

My skates are bona fide figure skates that are high-end for my ability level, so the wheels are far more flexible and allow for strong edges. They literally wobble from side to side, but to get enough of an edge for spins, that's pretty necessary. (Just to warn you, I will ramble about skating forever! :^P Stopping now before I get more carried away....)

Oh, it's pretty interesting in fact (oops, now I've probably encouraged you, hehe). The wobbly wheels make a lot of sense, when I think of it, especially when you're doing spins etc. I must confess I had a little bit of a problem picturing doing this with standard type roller skates such as I had (it was hard only to get around a corner with them).
