The Ravens are Super Bowl champs! Wow, what a game ... I think I lost at least a month off my life but neither Kapaernik nor injuries nor a 35-minute power outage could keep us down

Good for you! Almost everyone I know except you was rooting for San Francisco. I never really cared one way or the other. I was happy to have you to be happy for.
Rooting for the 49rs simply means they thought they would win. Aside for the hometown favorite, people always root for who they perceive as winners. (I personally love an upset!) I see the moving fan base all the time in New York City in baseball. Yeah, there is a hard core of crazy fans for each of the different local teams, but there is a huge amorous mass that sways to whichever one they think is going to win this year.
In my family, I used to live in the Bay Area, my niece and her kids live there, I have oceans of old friends in San Francisco, and Laura has a swarm of cousins there from the other side of the family. So that was who they rooted for this year.
Personally, I still cannot keep score in a football game, not even after being a cheerleader in high school and going to colleges with big important football teams.

That's admittedly weird to me! I guess I'm complicated in picking the team to root for. I like underdogs and young teams, i.e., I was thrilled the Texans did so well this year. I'll root for teams because I like a particular player on the team. Or I'll root against a team because I dislike a particular player. So yay for Denver because of Peyton Manning, boo to New England because of Tom Brady and Bill "Poor Sport" Bellichik. I'll root against teams that always win. I guess that ties back into rooting for an underdog. Even before the cheating scandal, I was getting tired of seeing New England all the time.
I can't imagine favoring a team simply because they were being picked as the winner.
Hey, look at it this way: at least y'all got beaten by a Super Bowl-winning team. ;) Yes, I have used that cold comfort many a'times myself, as the Ravens are frequently in the playoffs but only twice now to the big game. I know the NE stats on that are even more painful ...
I did some voodoo magic at that last defence of the end zone by screaming "Come on, hold that line! Hold the line!" before each snap. You're welcome. ;) ;)
Yes, having the Orioles back in the hunt is awesome ... okay, I'm a little biased. ;) If the O's do anything much this year (and I agree with you that they should!) then this town is going to be wild! :D

Last year's Super Bowl, we spent at the ski lodge (Bobby snowboarding, me working), so it was nice to have something to celebrate! :D

The Orioles should be good this season. The AL East is certainly going to be very, very interesting.
