My First Podfic! "Paper" from 2005

Nov 04, 2012 14:17

As I announced yesterday, the SWG archive now accepts podfics, which is something my comods and I have been working on off-and-on for a few months now. I'm excited about this possibility, even though I have no idea how popular it will be. It's a technology that has intrigued me for a while now, so I hope others will be interested in learning and ( Read more... )

Eeee! :D

I'm not nearly brave enough to unleash my squeaky organ on the world, much less on the esteemed people of the SWG, but you sound nearly like I imagined you would, and I hope a lot of others follow your example of podficcing! :)

And now to finish listening! I had one of my Firefly fics podficced before, and found it extremely interesting to hear someone else's interpretation - the same words, but very different when it came to intonation and rhythm. On the flipside, hearing a fic like the author imagined it to sound is just as compelling. ^^

I hope so too! :) I probably could have done some more useful things during those three hours (laundry *ahem*), but I hoped to set a good example and get some people excited about the podfic section once they saw it in action! :)

I think my voice lacks anything egregious accent-wise as far as American accents go, but every now and then, I'll come out with something very Baltimore or very Southern. Definitely trying to avoid that here. :D I wish I could hear you read, but I do understand what it's like to hate one's voice. I always cringe at first at the sound of mine but figure I unleash it for sometimes hours each week on my poor students when we read long stories as a class, and none of them have fallen ill or gone crazy from listening to me, so it can't be that bad.

I'd love to read one of your stories, of course, as you're one of my favorite authors, so if you ever want a reader ... :)

Sometimes usefulness has to take a step back in favour of something nice. :) And I'm sure this is going to generate some excitement!

I enjoyed your voice and accent, too - nothing egregious that I could notice, except, well, that you're from the eastern US; local idiosyncrasies are pretty much lost on me. Nothing to go crazy from, at any rate!

*squeaking!* Please feel free to read any of mine that you like! I don't want to *ask* for any of them, but is there a way to give blanket permission for anyone who might want to do so? :)

I almost wish I wrote more humor pieces; I could do the Teleri with a Baltimore accent. (If you've ever seen the movie Hairspray, John Travolta does a great Baltimore accent. I'd like to say that it's exaggerated, but my father-in-law actually talks that way, especially when he's angry about something. O.O)

is there a way to give blanket permission for anyone who might want to do so?

All the SWG requires for recording someone else's story is there permission. So if you're willing to give it, that's all there is!

I'm going to email you in a sec about something ...

Oh...my...I'm blaming you that I'm now smiling like I belong in an asylum and trying to keep from laughing, so I don't attract the attention of all my professors as I sit in the hallway near their offices waiting for my class to start. Because now I'm picturing Olwë with a Baltimore accent, and it's hilarious.

And my roommate now thinks I'm insane. Some one needs to write a humorous Teleri story so that you can read it with that accent.
