I am two days early, but since I am currently staring down a monster of a busy weekend, here goes....
Happy Birthday, Unsung Heroine!!!I hope that all of your wishes come true, on this day and all others! I send you many virtual hugs and wish you many pretty Elves that magically speak and shut up just when you want them to

Your idea is so very fascinating and interesting. Having Caranthir forsaking his immortality and remaining bound to the Earth, as was Haleth is the most unlikely, strange kind of happy end I've ever read. It's so beautiful and sad. That image of the dead Elves being drawn to Valinor by silver cords is going to stay with me for a long time...
Also, I was completely drawn into the story by the fact that you told it from Caranthir's POV. You made him feel so close, so real and his feelings so tangible, that I felt tears pricking my eyes on more than one occasion. It was heart-breaking, the way Carni describes Haleth's departure and the way he can still feel her, even stronger after her death. *many hugs for Carni*
It made me shudder, the way Carni spoke of Maedhros, of the way he was after his rescue and how he remained strange ever since. The scene in which Maedhros is tying his shoe laces with only one hand reminds me of a pic I've seen a while ago. It's kinda funny, though sad, if you think more of it. You might have seen it too, but I'm posting it in my LJ and you can take a look if you like.
One day, I-as my father had been-would be left alone. With my ear pressed to his workshop door, I listened to him weep on the day that my mother left, sobbing like I’d never known possible.
This, of course, wan my undoing. For some reason, the mere idea of Feanaro crying is enough to make me wail. *sniff* Makes me wanna hug him close and kiss his tears away.
You absolutely must share this story outside LJ. It will be received with a lot of enthusiasm and admiration, of this I am certain.
You gonna write Ent-slash? Now *that* will be an eye-opener and no mistake. I'll probably have to poke my eyes out ofter reading something like that...

I've always been fascinated by the idea of Elf/Edain relationships, since first seeing FotR in the theatres, and for some reason, I like better the male Elf/female Edain pairings. The perfect princessy-types like Arwen and Luthien tend to get on my nerves; I like edgy, gritty women like Haleth teaching their Elf-men a thing or two. ;) Unsung Heroine further intrigued me with the idea of Caranthir/Haleth looong ago; I'm glad to finally pay her back for all the plotbunnies! :^D
The silver cord, actually, I borrowed from a young adult thriller that I read when I was about twelve years old. The girl in the story could will her spirit to leave her body (astral projection, I think it's called), and she would envision a silver cord leading her back to her body. I sort of adapted that to explain how the Elves knew to go back to Mandos and how it was a very strong urge for them, like being pulled by a rope. The other thing that's always fascinated me--despite my dislike of LaCE in general--is the idea that Elves can forsake Mandos and remain wandering spirits. So all of these interests and ideas came together into this story!
I hope to post this story (and others) sometime soon, after I get back from PR and start sharing AMC on archives. Thank you for the encouragement! :) I really enjoyed writing this story and am so pleased to see it received so well.
*hugs* to you and I hope that your kitty is feeling better! *hugs* and treats for him too! :)
