A Little Man in a Hole and a Big Stinky Machine Do Not Roadwork Make...and Other Tales of Adventure

Yesterday, Bobby, Potter, and I got up at 7 a.m. (on a Saturday!) to go to Paramount's King's Dominion in central Viriginia. The three of us are ride enthusiasts--particularly rollercoasters--and Potter had never been to PKD, so it was a perfect opportunity.

It's okay! :) The three of us manage to have fun in just about any situation, so it could have been worse. And we've been having fun laughing about it!

Yep...but we still had fun. The three of us have said that we could be put into a blank room and still have fun! And now we laugh about it.

You should go to Illinois some time. The highways around Chicago exist in two seasons: Winter and Roadwork. You'd think that, what with all the construction going on, one day they'd finish the work and have rejoicing and festiveness throughout Chicagoland. Ha. Ha, ha. One year, they even closed the Skyway -- just before I went on a road trip to Indiana with a friend and a noodge who invited herself along, to the distress of all save herself ( ... )

I'll add Illinois to the map of pain-in-the-ass roadwork states alongside Maryland and Virginia. Honestly every major road in central Maryland is under some kind of construction right now; at least, I can't think of one in our area that isn't. They were doing something to I-95 at the Fort McHenry tunnel when I started university in 1999...and they're still doing it. I'm not even sure what they're doing because I never see any sort of progress, just lots of small men digging holes and driving big stinky machines.

Interestingly, the governor before the Republican piece of cow dung we have now Ehrlich had a brother-in-law who owned a contracting company. Hmmmm....

Space Mountain is like a very tame version of Flight of Fear, yes. The central concept is much of the same, but FoF is a very thrilling ride whereas Space Mountain is more of a family coaster.

I love rollercoasters enough to put up with the annoying elements of theme parks, namely the other people. ;)

I'm sorry you had such a crappy day. It always sucks when something that ( ... )

I try to make the best from the worst...and we have had several really good laughs about it over the past few days!

And the day wasn't a total bust. Bobby, Potter, and I have an ability to make our own fun. We are the group that once amused ourselves for the better part of the hour-long drive from Potter's house to our apartment by talking to each other in Italian gangster voices.

I've yet to visit King's Island, but a friend of mine who is a coaster nut has been to other Paramount parks aside from King's Dominion and says that they tend to be better. We currently waffling about whether we want our August weekend trip to be to Ocean City or Cedar Point, possibly with a detour to King's Island. If we do that, I'll look out for The Beast. ;)

We also have a version of the Red and Blue Racers called the Rebel Yell: two parallel tracks, one running forward and the other backward. It's one of my favorites. *loves old woodies erm...wooden coasters, that is*

We have the Shockwave which is stand-up but the wait is so long and the ride so short that we've only ridden it once, just to say that we did.

Sorry you had such a bad time. It sounds like a less than amusing day. It's strange, but just yesterday me and Sharon were talking about taking you and Bobby to 'Alton Towers' (one of the biggest theme parks in Britain) and she was telling me how much you loved PKD in Virginia.

I'm not a huge theme park person, but if I'm going to queue an hr for a ride I at least want it to be thrilling. I last went to Alton Towers when I was 14, so I can't say if it's gotten better or worse over the years, but since you have exhausted the theme parks around you, maybe we can take you on a theme-park tour of Britain ;-) we will, however, still have to pay £4 for a slice of pizza :-P

We made the best of things. :) You know how the three of us are: We live in our own little world and could probably have fun in a cardboard box. ;)

We'd love to see Alton Towers! Methinks that one of the versions of Rollercoaster Tycoon to come out had a scenario based in Alton Towers. (Is it surprising that I own every RCT to come out? :^D) And I've always seen rides from Alton Towers on the lists of top coasters in the world.
