AMC--Chapter Forty-Eight

Mar 30, 2006 10:37

I am posting a day early because Bobby and I are driving up north to Hershey tonight to see Stars on Ice, and I am off from work tomorrow. And I know myself. I will not wake up until ten (maybe eleven); Bobby and I will go out to lunch; we will find ways to distract ourselves for a couple of hours. By the time I find my way onto the computer, you ( Read more... )

Whoa! Feanaro and his rabid smile are creeping me out.

For the record, I refuse to acknowledge that there are only three chapters left. Nope, not acknowledging it...

I loved the fact that Nelyo appeared less depressed in this chapter, even though the atmosphere that greets him at home is really weird. There was this slightly frightening feeling to the part of the chapter that begins with Nerdanel talking about Feanaro's mysterious guest. I'm afraid to think who it might be, though I have the uncomfortable feeling that the guest is none other than Melkor.

Again, the thought of Feanaro's manic joy at unveiling the Palantir is really scary. Turns out that Turko was right in saying that their father is going mad. Still, even Maitimo is tempted to use the apparently blasphemous creation, for his personal business.

Of course, there was that beautiful interlude of Feany and Maitimo getting caught up in experiments and long conversations, laughing and joking with each other. I know it's not supposed to be pervy, but the scene instantly took me back to my twisted-verse. It made me think of them smoking pot and laughing themselves silly. (among other things)

I'm fascinated by the way you envisioned the New Year's Traditions. And by the fact that you've painted such a powerful picture of Feany shutting everybody up during that counsel. Not to mention that I am intrigued by what Macalaure's costume is going to be. Funny, though, how, in the expanse of a couple of hours, Maitimo begins to feel up-rooted and left out, by both his father and his brothers.

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing with us early. I had a feeling you would. ;) Hope you have an excellent extended week-end and that the skating event will be a wonder to watch. *hugs*

But there is a positive way to look at it: Without devoting hours each week to reworking AMC, think of all the new projects that I can do. My Midhavens novel will (hopefully) be done by the end of the summer; I'm going to start work on the Feanor/Nerdanel project; and there is a certain Feanor/Erestor novella that will probably be started within the next week.... ;)

(But regardless of when I finish it, you have to wait for your birthday! Mwah! >:^D)

Hmmm. I've gotten two theories so far on who the mystery guest is. One is right and one is wrong.

Here's the only hint I'm giving: The hint as to who is the mystery guest is part of the canon. Tolkien's, not mine. ;)

When I read that part, I knew you'd like it. So that you picked it out of the whole chapter.... *pats self on back* ;)

Thanks! :) It's one of my favorite bits too; I really want these Elves to have a feeling of culture and history to them. They have been around for centuries; there must be something. And I've always thought that the decision to go to Valinor was a much harder decision than Rumil makes it out to be in the prettified text.

Funny, though, how, in the expanse of a couple of hours, Maitimo begins to feel up-rooted and left out, by both his father and his brothers.

That's Maitimo's path in this story: from perfect and universally loved to fallen and falling from favor. As to whether he gets it back...the next three weeks will tell. ;)

Thank you! I hope your weekend was also nice. :) I had a great time at the show and with two of the three days of my weekend. The other.... o.O

Now I have lots of catching up to do. :) *hugs back*
