Lucifer sat reading a book that most certainly had not started clucking or laying eggs before. Something like that just would not be allowed in this house.
Though it would have been interesting to see.

This, was a lot of pensiveness for one house.
Gradually, something about Lucifer's reaction began to resonate in Wilson's brain. A particular question that he found himself increasingly curious about and finally, despite the fact that conventional wisdom told him to keep a fair distance from the Prince of Hell, Wilson found himself at the base of the stairs leading up to Lucifer's apartment.
Pursing his lips, Wilson put his hands in his pockets and headed up the stairs before he thought better about what he was doing and turned away. Upon reaching the top landing, he stood quietly just outside the door and waited.

Lucifer, it seemed, was not in the mood to play the good host.

"Just remember the bed pans," Wilson whispered to himself as he reached for the door knob and pushed it open.
Stepping across the threshhold, he pushed the door closed behind him and then turned, leaning back against the jamb.
"So, I was thinking," he began without preamble. "What was it about my answer that upset you."
Licking his lip in a pensive gesture, Wilson released the door knob and walked a few steps into the room. Setting his hands on his hips, he looked down at his toes and then back up at Lucifer.
"Then I realized, that wasn't the right question."

Did the mortal really need to get into this now?

"Mmm," he acknowledged with a slight nod and then began to pace thoughtfully.
"The better question. No. Actually, the only question that really counts is, why did it matter so much to you at all."
Pausing he turned and looked at Lucifer, his expression naked in it's curiosity.
"I should be little more than...a child to you, if that. Why would my words, upset you?"

"Would you honestly have me make such an arrogant assumption?" He said softly.
"I respect who and what you are too much to make the blind leap from being honored that you seem to enjoy my company to the idea that you might enjoy my company."

"Games don't become us. I find your company pleasant, but it is not as simple as that and we are both aware of this."

"You're right," he agreed in a low whisper, dark eyes holding Lucifer's gaze.
"It is complicated. Not just between you and I but also what lays between you and Aziraphale."
And perhaps, Wilson realized, he'd been trying to shy away from that fact because it was so wickedly complicated but it was something that wouldn't be hidden from.

Lucifer pressed closer, shadowing Wilson's body with his own and just allowing himself to feel it. "None of which matter," He whispered into Wilson's ear, practically petting the other side of his neck with his thumb. "There will not be anything more than this. Understood?"

Despite the complexity of their dancing in the past, this was the closest that Wilson could remember being to Lucifer's gold eyes, to the warmth of his unique celestial scent, as familiar in it's own way as Phale's and yet completely Lucifer's own.
"And how many times, have you said those words to yourself already?" Wilson's voice was barely a whisper, hardly a challenge...more of an acknowledgement.

"But that's not what you want from either of us. If it was, it would be over and done with."

While it was tempting to push on with the next natural question, it would have been useless words, already understood between them, a redundant conversation.
"It is your company I enjoy, Lightbringer. Not your power or your reputation but the being who makes me laugh, who teases me at the pool table and makes me look hard at myself and this new world around me. The being who was willing to dance the polka with me in a church yard to the joy of others. I will not lie and claim that there are not aesthetically pleasing qualities in my attraction to you but those are not what brought me up here tonight."

Sighing softly, Lucifer pulled his hand away but made no move to distance himself from the mortal. "Go back to your angel before I do something regrettable."
