When asked to describe that past three weeks I have little to say. I want to, as there is MUCH to talk about...but what can I say, I am just a terrible story-teller. I'll try...at least a little.
So happy New Years, a little late. I spend mine in Lucca, Italy in a villa home in the hills w/ rich Italian kids who did smoked hash out of pipes larger than my head and party until the sun comes up. It was fun night filled with embarrassing language barriers. So I danced instead. The view from the hills was indescribable, as are many things about this trip. The pictures captured maybe 3 percent of the gorgeousness of the river, architecture, bridges, tall lush trees, beautiful cathedrals, and gorgeous people I saw. The food in Italy is fantastic--I had nothing I didn't like and even ate some meat while I was there. I paid for only 3 meals in over two weeks but had some of the most amazing home-cooked meals of my life. I saw lots of artwork that I should have appreciated more at the time. It was cold and I wore thermals or tights under my clothes everyday, until I finally got used to it and didn't (and was still cold). Taking a shower was miserable, so I did so rarely and didn’t shave for almost two weeks--the day I did I was disappointed to erase all my "hard work." Christian’s grandmother is an amazing woman who shakes her fist at everyone and told me that if I was in her home, I was going to live like an Italian. Almost everything I ate there was organic, which goes for almost all food sold at supermarkets there. People in Italy have amazing dogs, only the best and the most beautiful. I got drunk a few times at dinner, though not purposely. I traveled by train to to three countries--Italy, Switzerland, and Germany (listed in order of preference). On my favorite day next to new years eve/day, it snowed about 5 inches--more than it had in 35 years in Florence, so we ran onto the roof and played snowball fights late at night. I was impossibly happy that night.
