Last Saturday Sorian Grey and I went to the Cosplay night at the Castle. Sorian went as Lady Quicksilver from the X-Men Apocalypse movies. I wish I'd gotten a better photo of us in regular lighting, so you could truly see her silver and glittery makeup. She looked beautiful. The overall vibe was mellow and it was fun seeing friends since I haven't been out in a while, plus I got to dance which always makes me happy. It's such a stress release and if it weren't so expensive going to Ybor: paying for the gasoline, parking fees, dinner or pre-club snacks, door entry, and drinks throughout the evening, I would go more often. Some friends have more disposable income apparently and admittedly I wish I did too, so I could join them more often; but such is life. Reality is a b*tch and my reality is that now that I'm paying the full mortgage, grocery bill, internet fees, electric/water/sewage bill, and miscellaneous things such as keeping the house in good repair, there will be even less opportunities for special events than ever before. I'll have to budget accordingly and be more selective about things. The adult friends who have a strong foothold in "Responsibility Land" will understand and those who don't will simply become online acquaintances. *Shrug*.
My character was an homage to the Sunday comic strips and Pop Art by Roy Lichtenstein. I didn't really spend a lot of time on this costume and it was just thrown together at the last minute. I think I'll repeat the idea at a later event and do more of the body art on my chest and arms. I also bought a tie in case I want to gender bend and go in Drag King mode; which is something that I adore. My faux corset top and tie have the same design and there are similar styled leggings. I didn't buy those because clearly the designer was male and hated women. The front of the leggings (and *right where my female bits are located*,) is the word WOW! It's surrounded and outlined with orange, yellow and black colors. Not to be outdone so quickly, the designer then placed the word POOF in a blue and white billowing cloud on both sides of the crack and resting on each buttock. I made a joke that no matter which direction I moved, it was like a rude or obscene advertisement.
This is my friend Kirsten who went in costume as the main character from "Kiki's Delivery Service". She won an "Honorable Mention" award for her efforts.
Scott as beat-up Luka with a black eye, myself, and Esther as Link from the Zelda games. Esther had a lit-up fairy captured in a bottle as an accessory, which was a great touch.
