Ten years ago did you ever wonder what the future would be like in 2004? When you grow up watching movies like "Back to the Future part 2" with its vision of 2015 having flying cars, self-drying clothes, and hover boards, it was hard not to. At first glance, it would easy to say "well it's really not that much different." But upon closer examination, you'd realize that the most impressive advancement is the tool you are using to access and read this journal...the internet. Think of how simple it is to get information about any topic imaginable in a matter of seconds. Today in my Latin America class my professor was writing things on the board such as "Questzacatlin" and "Tezcatlipoca" and "Tenochiltan", and it made me ponder "hmmmmm I wonder what the longest word in the English language is." Using this magic tool of the internet, in a few seconds I had the answer. "Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis" - which is defined as "a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust, mostly found in volcanos". Can you imagine going to your doctor and saying "Well doc, what's wrong with me??" and him replying "I am going to give it to you straight....you have a severe case of pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis" Doesn't that make a disease like "Ebola" and its mere 5 letters sound less frightening? Imagine a proctor at the National Spelling Bee Championship giving an 11 year old that word to spell? Initially the poor kid would likely start crying, and then after gaining composure he or she would utter "ummmmm please repeat the pronunciation" at least 100 times.
well I could write more, but I will save it so I can update my journal tommorrow night too. Hopefully saying awake this late will make falling asleep an easy task tonight zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
