Still alive! I've mostly been babbling over on G+, but the majority of folks I became associated with a forever or two ago still post here, so I still watch the friend list pretty regularly ( Read more... )

Oh nice! With Unicode and spaces in character names, that pretty much
covers the "I really want this" part for Proto, in my book, unless you
can code Beipmu's author to do better QA on his releases(the problems he
introduces ruin my enjoyment of newer features coming in.) ;) I'd love to see
a full-scale Alias support though - currently, only a handful of programs like
page let you alias player names for easier use. Allowing players to have
multiple ones like pennmush supports would be useful.

The only other thing I can think of that I would potentially like, would be
somewhat heretical though. There are some programs like comsys and the
current incarnation of page, that are just so ubiquitous and functionally
useful...that they really should be inserver. Putting together a list of
such functionality and writing it in would be neato keen.

That's such a radical divergence from MUCK tradition though, I'm not sure
how well it'd come off without starting it as a completely new server
branch. I can see where some people might get really uptight about one
"flavor" of program being accepted as the standard when others have been
available, even when it's the most commonly used.

Global @aliases are something I've considered and I have an implementation in mind. It shouldn't be too hard to handle that at all.

(speaking of BeipMUs author, they're due for another prod on *implementing* Unicode support...)

RE: page/comsys, yeah, that's probably not going to go inserver. At some point I'll get around to my implementation of lib-messaging and hopefully that will go a long way to reducing the pain in that area.
