Day 2. 8.17pm

After an exhasting flight which was delayed by an hour (Easyjet don't seem so Easy now) I arrived in Rome, getting a bus to the main train station was easy but finding my hostel was not, I walking in circles for a while before asking a taxi driver to drive me there, but he said I was too close, which indeed I was.

I got to the hostel about 10:30 and they seemed fine that I was late but not so fine that I had taken all their change (What was I supposed to do? I'd just arrived in the country) but she didn't make too much of a fuss and showed me to my room, which had four bunk beds in it. Everyone was out but I soon noticed the lack of a bad smell and a number of bras and worked out that my new roommates were infact all girls.

Anyway, today I decided to go to the Colosseum and found it easier than I found my hostel, the Italian metro is hotter, more smelly and more crowded than any London Tube line, so I'm not complaining about the cramped trip between Kings Cross and Liverpool Street anymore. The Colosseum is fantastic and I took about 100 pictures of it and the surrounding area. The first other tourist I met in the area, who only came over to ask if I could take a picture of him was from Bilbaou (sp) North Spain, and actually studied for two years in Finchley, he knew where High Barnet was and knew the Northern Line. Small World.

I managed to get stuck in the station during the worst flash flood ever, but that meant I got to sit down and eat something for the first time since I landed, (yes, nearly 24 hours without food, I don't know how I managed) even though it was some manky station food it still tasted miles better than pasta and random sauce would in London.

Italian drivers may be worse than Spanish drivers. I'm finding it difficult to cross busy roads but I'm sticking to my fool-proof plan of finding and Italian looking person and shadowing them as they cross, they seem to know best.

I'm sticking to my plan (only just) of going to Pisa early on Sunday morning and then heading to Florence later that night. I might have to bling it up and get a hotel there as the hostels have a bad reputation and I'm only there for a night or two. From there I may go to either Milan or Turin and then head out to Barca before maybe taking a detour down to Valencia before heading off to Madrid.

I'll update if I make changes to my plans but I've gotta dash now. This computer room is more cramped than my dorm and I'm dehydrating.

Ciao!
