David turns up at Lilah's house on the Friday night. A full tank of gas. A bag packed for a weekend away.

He's left a note for Alan.

Gone away for the weekend with Lilah. Try not to sell the house while I'm gone.

He's only half joking. He's realised from the messages on the machine how quickly the sale is going through. He hasn't mentioned it to anyone but Woody. Not even to Lilah. He's embaressed, and he doesn't quite know why. He feels ashamed.

So he turns up at Lilah's. He lets himself in. She's not home from work yet. She works so late. She always works late. He worries about her. About how hard she works. About her coming home late at night. She never comes home while it's still light out. And he worries.

Anya isn't home either. Just the cats. So many cats.

Finally he hears her heels on the tiled floor. He can recognise her just from the sound of her heels. The sound of her walk.

She walks in, she doesn't seem surprised to see him.

He doesn't look away from the television. "I've packed my bag. I was thinking we'd leave for Vegas tonight."
