School Sports Day Song

Apr 05, 2006 09:20

Got this from the Straits Times today on Forum page, by Low Mun Kit:

"Let sports be played in a gentlemanly way and in the right spirit. Winning must not be done at all costs. I always cherish this song we sang (to the tune of O Danny Boy) at the end of each school sports day:

The race is run, the winner wears the laurels
But you and I not empty go away
For we have seen the least unkind of quarrels
Our boys and girls compete in friendly fray

Let us be glad but not because of winning
For we are all one family today
God give our school His choicest blessing
To make us feel as one and guide us on our way

May nations all seek harmony with others
And work as nobly as we children play
Lose with a laugh and battle but as brothers
Loving to win but not in every way"

Amen! Let me add a second chorus to match the second verse:

Let us be glad for God will come to heal the earth [Revelation 19:7; Romans 8:21]
For we have all gone our own way astray [Isaiah 53:6]
God gave His Son to bless all families of the earth [John 3:16; Genesis 12:3]
To make us righteous and to reign with Him one day [1 Peter 2:24; 2 Timothy 2:12]
