Back from Montreal

Four of us ended up going: myself, Ed, Theresa, and Mike. Becca was going to go, but had to cancel due to her work scheduling. We had thought we might be taking my car if we had 5, but since we had 4, we took Theresa's car. We were planning on getting together and leaving around 10am on Friday. I arrived early, and Mike ran somewhat late, but we were on the road by 11. We stopped in Plattsburg for a quick lunch at Subway, and arrived in Montreal around 3:45. We checked in to the Day's Inn, and then went out for a walk through the park. Specifically, we went to the Parc du Mont-Royal and hiked up to the top for the panoramic view of the city. Before and after, we checked out Main Madness, a annual sidewalk sale on boulevard Saint-Laurent. We had dinner at a Mexican place, a drink, and called it a night.

The next morning, we wandered in a different district and eventually found a place to have breakfast (apparently Montreal is a bit more of a nighttime than morning sorta place). We did some shopping, including checking out the Latin quarter and Chinatown. I ended up buying a leather coat, as well as some stuff for D&D at a gaming shop we found. We got tickets for a Portuguese film, Call Girl, at the Montreal World Film Festival. We were a bit early, so we had a drink at a local pub, and then went to the movie. I quite enjoyed it. Afterwards, we had a bite to eat, then got a bottle of wine to bring back to the hotel room, and watched a movie on TV. It was sort of weird; I still don't understand all that was going on there. Some of us fell asleep during the movie; I waited until it was over.

The next morning, we got breakfast at a cute cafe, and then checked out of the hotel. While going across the border only took 15 minutes or so to get into Canada, it took easily an hour waiting in line to get back into the US. We had a late lunch at Ponderosa's (which I had sort of been missing), and got home in the afternoon without any difficulties along the way.
