In honor of today's unveiling of SpaceShipTwo, the first commercial spacecraft, here's a wish list I've held in my head for some years:
  1. Actual stay in orbit (e.g. via Soyuz to ISS - $35,000,000)
  2. Simulated Mars mission (e.g. FMARS - cost unknown, substantial time commitment)
  3. Sub-orbital flight (e.g. Virgin Read more... )

This is so cool. And not just because it makes the zeppelin look like a bargain. It is awesome that these optiosn even EXIST--for somebody, anyway.

If I had teh $200K I'd be on that spacecraft like a shot...

The only reason I'm a little less enthusiastic about ZeroG than I could be is that I'm afraid I'd utterly disgrace myself with uncontrollable vertigo and nausea...

My wish list is basically to see a shuttle launch while they are still doing them. I guess that would be roughly $1000 for airfare and motel and waiting around for the launch to actually happen.

What I already did is work for NASA, including testing 1% and 1/3 scale working models of the shuttle. And they paid me. Not much, of course, but it was a while ago and I was young.

What a very cool list! in part, as anghara says because it make a Zeppelin ride look like such a bargain ;>.

I may have to add your numbers 5 & 6 to my list of Holiday wishes :>.

Oh, *yearn*. Looks like the Zeppelin ride and the Space Camp are the only ones remotely within my grasp. The latter, though, for what I think is an odd reason: My credit card "reward" points have accumulated to the point where I could get both the airfare down to FL and back, and the space camp, free. However, I was put off because the rewards site says it's an all-day "experience" while the space camp web site says half a day. Hmm...what ELSE are they fudging on, those suspicious credit card reward point people...? I'm still seriously entertaining the idea, though. All I'd have to pay for is lodging and meals...
