Pre Update

May 31, 2006 22:22

Here is a short "pre-update" before tomorrow's "big" update. Tonight was the Allen W. Roberts Spring Instrumental Concert. It went very well, I was extremely happy with the performances of the 4th grade band and the 5/6 band. I was VERY shocked to hear such a good sound from my beginners. They can play well, they just haven't done it consistently. I'm VERY proud of them. The 5/6 Band had some really nice moments as well, we played an arrangement of Dvorak's New World Symphony, which was my personal favorite. We also played a piece called "Clouds" by Anne McGinty. The piece is in three movements and is a programmatic piece that represents Cirrus, Thunder, and Cumulus clouds. I had the students draw a visual representation of what they heard and creatd a slide presentation that played through Powerpoint during our performance. I think the parents really enjoyed that. I was extremely scared though. The entire piece, the band had their eyes towards the SCREEN instead of ME or THEIR MUSIC. YIKES! They did well though. Jazz band was OK, tempo issues caused a breakdown in song one, which made students miss a D.S. al Coda. Thank God for the rhythm section continuing to play loud enough so I could mouth "CODA....NOW...1 2 READY GO!" and pray for my life that everyone caught on. We ended together, and I'm not sure it was as bad as I thought.

I perspire alot on stage, even when I'm not nervous. Those lights are hot. I need a personal fan to carry around. It's pretty embarrassing. I made a joke about it during the concert, I think it put to ease some audience members who may have been grossed out. ;)

Stayed tuned, tomorrow is the day.
