Last night, I finished reading Neil Gaiman's new novel Anansi Boys. Quick review: Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors, and this book certainly didn't hurt his standing. It's excellent. Back when Alexei and I were dating, the first gift that he ever gave me was a personalized and autographed copy of Neverwhere. Not my favorite Gaiman book, by a long shot, but still a treasured possession. A couple of months later, Alexei's mother (who works in programming over at KPCC) managed to get us in to meet with Neil while he was at the station for an interview. He was great. He told us about his feud with the Jim Henson Company, related off-color stories about Harlan Ellison and Alan Moore, and let us geek out to the max by spending time talking about his comics and what stories we most wanted to see (even though Sandman had finished by this point). There were several discussions about the Delirium mini-series that never saw the light of day, and I mentioned how I'd dreamed of finding a manuscript about the fate of the first Despair.

To summarize, the man is a class act, and if you're a fan of his, you should consider yourself to be extremely lucky, because I can think of no one in the business more friendly or accommodating to their fans.
