The Scorched Earth Policy of Writing

Apr 05, 2007 09:15

Last night, in a creative fit, I rewrote 95% of project I was working on.

I think it is better now.

But, wow ... rarely have I been so merciless.

Sometimes we have good ideas. Sometimes we have great ideas. Other times, we have brilliant ideas. No matter how good, great, or brilliant those ideas are, it is the execution that matters most.

How are those ideas conveyed?

How can you optimize storytelling techniques to provide your readers with the access they need to your good, great, or brilliant ideas?

As much as I used to hate re-writing, I’ve come to realize the importance of drafting, re-drafting, wordsmithing, and tweaking my projects.

But, sometimes, you need to burn the forest to save the trees.

And that’s what happened last night.

And the story is much better for it.

work, tired, wow
