Spite Makes Right

Here's a link to a terrific editorial by Paul Krugman on the spitefulness of conservatives in the Age of Obama.  As Jon Stewart put it last night on The Daily Show, it turns out, for all their talk about patriotism and "Country First," that those on the far right "hate Obama more than they love America."

Saw this editorial this morning. Obsession is never a pretty thing and some members of the Extreme Right have gone too far in their hatred of Mr. Obama. I detested Mr. Bush but I would not have wished America ill just to spite him. Clearly they've lost sight of what is important other than their own petty whims and bruised egos.

Right, Jana. I'm as partisan as the next person, but there are limits.

I took a break from the news over the last couple of weeks so I didn't know about the unbridled glee with which the Olympic decision was met by the wingnut brigade. It makes me sad. What else do they hope won't work out? How about the H1N1 vaccine? Maybe they really would rather risk severe illness (and possible death for some) rather than have anything this administration undertakes succeed.

I'd like to believe that their animus for the President doesn't go that far, but with a few -- the Glenn Beck/Rush Limbaugh types -- I'm really not certain
