I enjoy a swim. But I'm also too lazy and too cheap to toddle on down to the swimming pool of a morning. There is a swimming pool in the backyard, but it isn't large enough to swim in. Three strokes and I'd have to stop. So. What if I instead tethered myself in place?
Looking around on the internet, it is possible to purchase a swim tether. It's a water resistant belt with a loop in the back to tie the swimmer to a line, which is tied to a fixed point (fence post, pool ladder, etc.) These belts run somewhere between $60 to $80. They also don't seem to come in my size.
Alternative: What if I purchased some marine suitable rope and a pair of carabiners and made one myself? 15m of water ready rope costs $2. Two galvanised steel carabiners for $3. A couple of nifty knots, and hey presto. Home-made swim tether. I could swim for as long as I want in my own space, at my own pace, at no cost, whenever I want. And be a short walk to a decent shower.
Shouldn't be too much longer before the pool is good for swimming again (recently fixed pump, water needs to cycle.) Should be able to trial this simple construct.
