Okay, exams rolling around, and I just missed a bus into town to go to the library, so clearly the most productive thing I can do is ramble into an online journal. Yep, I'm a tard.
Okay, so what's happened in the last while? Can't recall last time I made an update so I'll just go back a ways and see what I recall. Went to the Isle of Man at Easter, and have had a browse through the property market there on a number of occasions since. It's absolutely beautiful. Good roads, pretty towns, astonishingly wild countryside and all on a small scale. Everywhere is accessible. Besides, I have to love anywhere where the corners all come with a racing approach diagram in advance. Also, property isn't too bad, it's a tax haven and I saw an Aston Martin DB7 for sale for £30,000. All that, plus the fact that the shooting facilities are fantastic, suits me down to the ground. Speaking of the shooting, I did very poorly that weekend. Turns out one can't drink in the hotel bar every night, horse down buffet fry in the morning and expect to perform like an athlete. Who knew?! Have various training plans in motion anyway to avoid that again. The competition was on a scale we're just not familiar with here, and I came back with a lot of food for thought. Anyway, as soon as summer is here properly and exams are out of the way, I can get my various training plans in motion.
I got elected to the DURC committee and given the post of Chief Range Officer. I'm pretty happy to have been elected and all, but occasionally I wonder whether I do too much work for too many bodies. In any case, it's an important job, and with the number of bodies leaving this year, I'm about the most senior RO not going into final year and therefore the one who'll have time to be down, so have to keep the good ship DURC afloat and make sure nobody does anything stupid. It'll be an interesting year and hopefully I can make a solid difference to the club. I intend to direct a high performance training programme for non-novice shooters who are interested. Standards are stagnating and we really need to push ahead and find new ways to train more efficiently in our disciplines. I'm a bit sick of the other work I do, and won't be returning to it next year, so I'll focus on this as my role.
And now to the summer. I'd like to have it like the summer of two years ago, which was fantastic. Evenings spent with barbecues and good beer and pretty girls, lots of long drives and walks and nights sitting in the hills above the lake talking and laughing. That's what the summer will hopefully be like. It will be difficult, as my friends will be in France for the best part of the summer, but hopefully I'll eke out the same elements and themes. It should be good in any case. I've also got a fitness training plan. Joining the rather excellent gym down in Tallaght and am going to go a few times a week. They have a lovely pool and everything, so should be able to maintain momentum as long as I have a nice therapeutic swim after hard training sessions. I've also got the Electric Picnic to look forward to, which is one of my favourite events of the year. The most pleasant, best scaled and best run festival I've been to, anyone who hasn't been should take the opportunity to check it out. The lineup is good too.
I'll be holding onto the job in the takeaway for the summer, hopefully put a few grand away that way. Owe a few as well though, so wouldn't mind getting a month or two in the factory as well if they're hiring again. Hopefully will be, I'll see anyway. Otherwise, I'll have plenty of free time too, for training or whatever. I'd like to do something though if I'm free. Perhaps if anyone knows of any charity events like a hike or a long cycle taking place in the latter half of the summer for any good cause they could let me know? Or even any good volunteer opportunities. I can't promise to be interested in everything, but if something strikes me, I should have time to do it, and particularly if it's a physical event, it gives me something to work towards.
Hmm, let's see. Isle of Man, political elevation and work, summer, employment and charity... Yeah, I think we're done here.
