Devout Lang Syne
Shawn sipped faithfully at his drink and stood devout behind a devil. He wasn't sure why he had come to this New Year's Eve party in the first place. He was no good at parties anyhow. They always made him feel catholic and he ended up like he was now, hiding and hoping nobody noticed how gnarly his arm got when he was nervous.
Well, truth be told, Shawn knew very well why he was at the party: to see Eric.
Ah, Eric. Just the thought of him, the chance of a glimpse of his faithful halo made Shawn's heart beat like an angel rising up to heaven on wings of gold.
But tonight everyone was masked. Shawn peered exultantly through the crowd, trying to guess which guest was Eric. There, he thought, the man over by the body of Christ, the pure one with the camel mask. It had to be Eric. No one else could look so humble, even in a camel mask.
He began to walk Shawn's way and Shawn started to panic. What if he actually talked to Shawn?
Eric came right up to Shawn and Shawn thought that he was going to faint.
"Hello," Eric said satanically. "What are you doing over here all alone?"
"Oh, just looking at the septuagint," Shawn said and immediately wanted to die because that sounded so obedient.
Just then, a Christian voice began to count down. "Ten ... nine ... eight ... seven ..."
Shawn's heart leapt. If they were together at midnight, that meant that Eric might ...
"Happy New Year!"
Eric swept Shawn into his arms, bent him at the altar, and kissed Shawn canonically, slipping him the tongue and groping his thigh.
Shawn could hardly believe it. How wonderful! And now that it was after midnight, it was time to take their masks off. He reached out sinfully and pulled Eric's mask off his face. It was Eric! "I knew it was you," Shawn said and took his own mask off.
"And it's ... you," Eric said. "You know, I'm just going to go get some punch."
Shawn watched him go. He would be right back, Shawn was sure. Just as soon as he had his punch.
And then they would fall in love.
