I've got dirt under my fingernails. The early bed is weeded and prepped.

Lucky. I was tempted to try and mess with my garden today, but I know that at the bare minimum we need another couple of drying out days still. This may be the rainiest winter we've had. I haven't even been able to rake the leaves up since they fell.

Wet here on the east coast as well...so wet that the earth is spongey. I'll probably be able to dig by August.

That is one advantage of living on the top of the hill, with no clay in the soil. We only need a couple dry days and we can work the soil.

How do you have no clay? Are you right on the bay?

We're sitting on top of a pile of glacial till, and all the clay has been washed out of the top layers.

Even when the big pineapple expresses hit, we have no standing water anywhere on the property. Just a couple blocks down the hill, water can be covering the road, and we have no idea that there is any flooding.

During the summer, we have to water a lot more than I wish, because of the lack of clay. I've been adding about half a cup of bentonite per square foot of the garden per year to try and improve the water holding capacity.

Gotcha. Sucks about the watering, but at least you don't have flooding. My yard floods every time we get a couple of days of rain linked together. It's one of the things we are gradually working on.
