I didn't even have to look at the clock to verify this, because this is the time my mom traditionally rolls everyone out of bed on Thanksgiving; her philosophy is that if she has to be awake to cook, everyone else has to be awake to keep her company. she's tolerating me. if i don't show up for christmas, she may disown me.

after that year, we've used frozen turkeys all the way. turkey isn't what you have to worry about at christmas, anyway. it's the eggnog and the inevitable drunken brawl in the yard.

i like it, but only when it's spiked with whatever you're supposed to spike it with. but it's best not to drink at the holt family christmas. it's best to stick with water and watch everyone else make fools out of themselves.

i used to feel that way until i realized that we were all going to say what we really thought, alcohol or no alcohol.

the question is, whether or not you will remember it the next day, well enough to remind someone else of it.

i never forget. and usually, someone's got a video camera so we can go back and remember who started the fight.
