We got back to Bangor on Sunday, after a nice Christmas visit with my family in Indiana. All three of my sisters, their kids, all my Rutledge cousins, one Baughman cousin, both uncles and one aunt were all there. Twenty-five people at Christmas Eve dinner, nine of which were under the age of 10. Pure and utter chaos. Pretty cool.
Driving out, we saw lake effect snow first hand. Absolute white-out from Buffalo, NY to Erie, PA. That was fun. The rest of the trip we had pretty good weather. There was an ice storm while we were in Lafayette (Indiana, where my folks live), but we didn't need to drive anywhere, so that was no big deal. My kids did show they were from Maine, though. When Susie was driving the kids somewhere and the car skidded a bit, Sam(age 4) asked if she had "tiny spikes on her tires". Studded snow tires are legal in Maine.
It was cool seeing all the kids getting along.

Where x= division winner, y= wild card, and z=homefield throughout.
I hope Big Ben is OK. If the Steelers lose, I want it to be because they are out-played, not because their QB has a brain injury. Plus, I hope he's OK because I don't want anybody to have a brain injury.
Is anyone else surprised how high the Chargers are rated?
As I've stated before, all these ratings are is average margin of victory adjusted for schedule strength.
The Broncos end of season collapse was Red Soxian. As much as it pains me to say it, they had no business winning the division. Hopefully they will use the offseason to get their proverbial defensive ducks in a row.
I only saw a couple of Chiefs games, but it seems to me they need line help on both sides of the ball.
I've never understood all the hoopla around Brett Favre. In my book, he's not in the same league with the all time greats (Montana, Elway, Marino, Unitas, etc.). Yes, he deserved the three MVP awards he won, but he never really reached the next level. He went ten years between good seasons. He'll have a great game, then throw one pass that should never have been thrown, right into the hands of a defender, who will take it in for a score. Then of course there was the crying press conference when he was addicted to vicodin. And the time he put percocet in Steve Mariucci's coffee, as a joke. The guy pisses me off. Of course John Elway's big teeth piss people off, too.
Favre also managed to get "Man-genius" fired. Boo-hoo. I don't really care for what Dan Jenkins referred to as the "Dog-ass Jets".
Which brings us to Chad Pennington. Generally, NY Jets QB has been a synonym for "over-rated". Let's look at Joe Namath, who had a career of very average numbers, and if he hadn't won the groundbreaking Super Bowl III, would not be in the Hall of Fame. Other "notable" over-rated (at the time)Jets QB's? How about Richard Todd? Ken O'Brien? No need to bring up the Saviour, Browning Nagle. And then there is Chad Pennington. Always a pretty good QB, when he was healthy, yet very little was ever said about him. I was glad he got a chance to start this year, and look what he's done: led a team in one of the best worst to first turn arounds in NFL history, and won the division over his old team and over the Patriots. The Pats have had a stranglehold on the division since 2002.
