My wife and 2 small kids back in England must miss me. It was probably a selfish decision to stay in Japan for another year. What an awful husband and father.
Oh but wait! I don`t have a wife or kids - that`s just what the entire town thinks, apparently.
Yep, I just bumped into a couple of parents I haven`t seen for over a year. I have no idea who most of the PTA are, but I remember this couple because they both speak wonderful English. Anyway, we were having a little chat in the supermarket when the subject of how long I want to stay in Japan came up.
They seemed a little surprised when I said I`d like to stay another year.
This is how the conversation went:
Mrs.A.: But you have a family back in England, don`t you?
Me : Yes...well...I have a sister and her two kids.
Mrs.A.: But don`t you have a wife and two daughters?
Me: (slightly confused) No.....
Mrs.A.: Really? But my daughter told me you did!
Me: No... I don`t have a family.
Mrs.A. Oh! But many people think you have a wife and 2 children in England!
Great.
Now, I can guess how this happened. Way back last year when I did my self-introduction lessons, I showed photos of my niece and nephew. I also have a picture on my desk of me and my niece on the beach making sandcastles. The kids must have put 2 and 2 together and got 38340093948047210, what ever that is.
I think we`re going to have to have a few "About David" quizzes as warm-up activities in lessons next week.
