Bang Bang

Why does America have so many guns? It works out that there are 120 guns for every citizen of the USA! That is mind-boggling. Only Yemen comes closest!

Perhaps the ear incident with the orange-faced pretender to the thrown will make Republicans and their ilk think again. I doubt it. But we can hope.

It reminds me of another ear incident, that of The War of Jenkins' Ear. It was a conflict lasting from 1739 to 1748 between Britain and Spain - again. The majority of the fighting took place in New Granada and the Caribbean Sea, with major operations largely ended by 1742. It was related to the 1740 to 1748 War of the Austrian Succession. The name was coined in 1858 by British historian Thomas Carlyle and refers to Robert Jenkins, captain of the British brig Rebecca, whose ear was allegedly severed by Spanish coast guards while searching his ship for contraband in April 1731.

It is about time that their gun laws are tightened up ... but then hasn't the USA been a violent state ever since its incorporation? It is still a young country compared to us Brits. We had one civil war but that was way back in history. The USA had one big bloody one between the Confederacy and the Union, and basically over how the country would be run. (I know that is a simplification but bear with me). So, from my perspective, the current situation seems to be very toxic, and if Trump does get in, with his rabid followers, I fear there could be a second civil war.
