Here in the USA they were all on the required reading list for High school (9th - 12th year) English Literature class. I would have to look it up to be certain, but I think they were also all written by American authors. The other 2 questions I'm drawing a complete blank.

you took away the obvious answer, but another is all are frequently on school reading lists, although i suspect you have something more nefarious in mind.
