Awesome sailing day. Despite the skies roiling and churning to beat the band, there was a 0% chance of rain predicted. And indeed, we experienced none.
Took my brother out. Hasn't sailed before but handled the sheets like a pro due to years of RC model sailboating. And of course, my second first mate, Rick.
We also made a date to meet up with Ken & Janet aboard Lake Effect:
I've installed a new depth sounder / GPS unit (the depth sounder is necessary, I got the GPS because the unit was on for less than half price) and this is the first chance we've been able to try it out.
So I decided to go visit one of the best known wrecks in Humber Bay, the
Sligo (pronounced Slay-go).
It's marked with a buoy at GPS coords: 43 36.900 -079 27.088, which is here:
We moored on the buoy for a light lunch of flaked trout on bread, granola bars and fruit.
After Lake Effect went on her merry way westward , we decided to stick around to check out the new depth sounder. We stayed moored and turned the motor on, so we rotated about the mooring.
Here what the bottom contour looks like directly under the buoy:
Technology rocks!
And sailing's fun.
