Long Ago, in the Land of the Green Isles [ Monday, 08/15 ].

Aug 15, 2011 08:30

This was it...finally! After spending so many days in a library, inhaling the musty scent of old maps and charts, Alexander was now breathing in the exhilarating scent of the salty sea air! Around him, the capable crew toiled; occasionally, he threw in his hand to help, rather fond of the hard labor involved with sailing. And then he was blessed ( Read more... )

On Board the Ship - 08/15. daventryprince August 15 2011, 13:36:47 UTC
It's a lengthy trip in a fine ship, so there is plenty of time to mingle or fight against your seasickness or perhaps even help the crew as the ship sets sail for the Land of the Green Isles.

It's a beautiful day and the sea is calm and pleasant.

It was not the first time Faramir had been on a ship. He'd travelled more than a few times from Gondor to Dol Amroth by ship, but usually those remained in sight of land, only diverging from the coast when the waters were to shallow or dangerous.

So it was a rather new experience, one he enjoyed as he leaned against the railing, watching the water stretch in all directions.

Scanning the horizon called for frequent breaks; Alexander's eyes were getting tired, despite the fact that his heart kept wanting to search until he could be sure the Land of the Green Isles were in sight. Finding Faramir by the railing, he smiled a little and meandered over, going to put a hand on his shoulder.

"I must thank you again for coming along, Faramir," he said. "It will be good to have such a good man on board."

"You owe me no thanks," Faramir shook his head. "I said that I would help if I could and I am glad that I can keep to my word. Hopefully we will find your Isles soon."

The Storm - 08/15. daventryprince August 15 2011, 13:42:35 UTC
All was smooth sailing until Alexander finally uttered the words, "Land ho!"

It seemed that the moment the Land of the Green Isles came into view, as soon as the scrambling about to bring the ship to shore started, the storm hit out of nowhere, despite the clear blue skies. A fierce storm, a terrible storm, a relentless storm that threatened to veer the ship into the dangerous rocks ahead. Disaster would surely be imminent!

One moment, Faramir had been looking at the tiny spot in the distance that should be the island Alexander had been seeking for so long, the next there was only waves and thunder, sending the ship dancing up and down.

At least there was no time to think of becoming sea sick and Faramir was clinging to the rigging for dear life as he seemed unable to remain on his feet.

This, however was not exciting. Elphaba wasn't entirely sure what to do. When she saw Faramir clinging to the rigging, she pushed herself to do likewise, fighting her slippery footing and the rolling of the ship to do so. She quickly became soaked to the bone, making it very good that pure water did absolutely nothing to her that it didn't do to every other person.

It did not take long for Alexander to realize that if he did not do something soon, then all would be lost. He felt an immense tug at his heart; so many people here because of him, and now they were all going to meet a horrible fate at the hand of a sudden storm! Not to mention how the tragedy played out for himself, so close to finding his love and then finding only his doom! He had to do something. He had...

Shrinking back to a place where he could retain his focus, he started to utter the strange and arcane words he'd read in his childhood, from those books that he often tried to forget. But these were the situations for which he retained this knowledge. The chance to do good. The chance to save lives.

He just prayed that he was strong enough to pull it off.

The Isle of the Crown - 08/15. daventryprince August 15 2011, 13:47:51 UTC
The main island of the Land of the Green Isles, the Isle of the Crown is the most inhabitable of them, which is why the main village and the royal family settle here. With thick vegetation interrupted by stucco and wood buildings, the Isle of the Crown is almost idyllic in its appearance, but a great distress has been building here and things are not nearly as much of a paradise as it had once been.

The Beach - 08/15. daventryprince August 15 2011, 13:49:28 UTC
Thanks to Alexander's spell, the crew has mostly been whisked away to safety, but several people (incidentally, it appeared to be mostly Fandom High people!) have wound up shipwrecked on the warm sandy beaches. Surely, they were all safe and sound, but not as much could be said for the ship.

Perhaps after some recovery, some plans could be made to venture out and discover where they had landed.

"Zounds!" Realizing that he was not only safe and on solid ground, but also in one piece, Alexander sat up from the beach and looked around. The first thing he noticed was the trashed debris of the ship, and, immediately after, he scrambled to his feet and tried to find everyone else.

"Is everyone alright?" he asked. "Is anyone hurt?"

And, most importantly, "Is everyone here?"

It took a moment before Alexander received an answer for Faramir as he was busy coughing up seawater.

"I am well," he finally responded and somehow he'd managed to hold on to his sword which seemed a miracle in itself. He pushed to his feet and glanced around to see if anyone needed hand up.

Isle of Wonder - 08/15. daventryprince August 15 2011, 14:22:29 UTC
If viewed from above, the Isle of Wonder resembles the shape of a comma, which is not nearly as strange as the land itself. Filled with colorful characters and bizarre settings, it is a place of nonsense not soon forgotten!

If you thought Ali's had a lot of book, you clearly haven't seen the Book Garden on Exclamation Point! Towers of books provide the scenery for a buzzing swirl of spelling bees, and more surprises await inside.

One might want to avoid that spider web, though, intriguing as it may be.

The swamp on the Isle of Wonder may seem dark and quiet, but, as with most things here, things aren't always what they seem.

This lovely little garden is filled with all sort of interesting things, and you can expect to get what you will from things like iceberg lettuce, snap dragons, and wall flowers. The possibilities (and the puns) are endless.

Isle of the Sacred Mountain - 08/15. daventryprince August 15 2011, 14:38:33 UTC
The great Cliffs of Logic prevent anyone except the most wise from ascending into the Isle of the Sacred Mountain. Much as its name suggests, it consists of a great mountain, on top of which lives a race of winged beings with a powerful oracle and a menacing minotaur.

They don't take kindly to strangers on this part of the island, but there are prophesies to consider and then there's that minotaur...

Alexander felt glad that Faramir had come with him to the Isle of the Sacred Mountain to conquer the Cliffs of Logic. Between the two of them, the slow and steady progression of puzzles had been fairly easy, though they were quite worn by the time they reached the top. Exhausted, they step over the lip of the plateau and stand to catch their breath. However, they were not alone when they reached the top.

"Why do you make so much effort to climb the cliffs, young men?" The old woman was dressed in concealing rags, with an odd golden glint in her intense eyes. "The Winged Ones who live on this island have the power of flight."

She gestured toward the tall bush at her knees. "You could have it, too, if you'd only eat a berry from this magical flying nightshade bush!"

To demonstrate, the woman popped a piece of one of the berries into her mouth and, sure enough, she began to float around with her arms out, the hanging robes like wings.

"See? The sweet berries will make you float like a petal on the wind! Try some!"

Faramir glanced uncertain at Alexander, wondering if this was another test. It would make the journey easier, but it seemed dangerous too or what if it was a trick.

"I like having my feet on the ground," he replied, cautiously.
