Room 316; Saturday Morning [ 11/27 ].

Nov 27, 2010 08:49

Saturday morning, and with the weather definitely taking a turn toward the cold, Alexander was staying indoors with a studious and imaginative task. He had, spread over his desk, various maps of the different lands from his world. He was returning to the very beginning, and mapping out potential routes of exploration for discovering the Land of ( Read more... )

Elphaba stopped by Alexander's door with a small, cloth covered plate in one hand. She knocked on said door and smiled. "I hope I'm not interrupting?"

Glancing up from a chart of projections regarding the stars, Alexander smiled once his mind switched from maps to the present. He pushed back his chair, turning toward the door. "Not at all, Elphaba," he said. "In fact, a break might be good for my poor eyes. How are you?"

"I'm rather well, actually," Elphaba said. "I'm learning some more about the traditions of this world. Which I was thinking of sharing with you, actually."

She took the cloth off the plate to reveal a few of the vegan gingerbread-people she'd made last night.

And so it came to pass that there would be a second time in Alexander's stay here at Fandom High School where the heavens needed to be thanked that, by the time he came to Daventry, the witch in the woods had long been defeated.

You know, the green one who turned people into gingerbread and ate them.

"Traditions?" Alexander asked, getting up from his chair. "Smells like gingerbread. Did you bake?"

"Yes," Elphaba said. "Gingerbread cookies and houses are apparently part of the Christmas traditions. Since I was so unprepared for Thursday's Thanksgiving, I wanted to be well versed in time for the new holiday. Would you like one?"

"I would love one, thank you," Alexander said. "But, if I'm not mistaken, you still have some time before Christmas, yes?"

"There is a month," Elphaba said. "I guess this will sound ridiculous, but I just... wanted to be ready. I felt so unsure at the gathering this week. I want to know what exactly I'll be getting myself into."

"If it makes you feel any better," Alexander offered, "the costumes were not entirely part of the plan."

But Alexander was stalling on eating his gingerbread cookie. "Which just reminds me that I had the privilege of dressing as one of these," he held up the little guy, "so consuming one is a little odd."

"They weren't?" Elphaba asked, a puzzled expression on her face. "Then why did you wear them?"

"A bit of an...unexpected surprise," Alexander offered, and finally went ahead and nibbled on the cookie's cranium. "Let's just say I have a feeling Student Council will be a little more careful about caterers next time around. They were...quite demanding."

Curiouser and curiouser. "Well I suppose so," Elphaba said. "They didn't actually hold any power over you, did they?"

She had horrible images of Alexander being danced about like a puppet by the caterers.

"No," said Alexander, "but they had power over the food, and that did seem to be a pretty integral part of the holiday."

"Rather," Elphaba said. "Though as a harvest festival that's just normal. Even if some of the food wasn't to my... preference, it was rather impressive on the whole. The council did a splendid job, I think."

"I shall have to pass that along to them, then," Alexander said with a nod. "I rather liked it myself, even if it's still difficult for me to fathom so much food in one place, even after similar feasts at the castle."

"I do hope none of the food went to waste," Elphaba said. "Especially all that... turkey."

She paused for a moment, then looked up. "Have you been well, since?"

"I have," Alexander said, deciding to just go with that since he honestly didn't know where the leftovers wound up...probably filling all the common room refrigerators. "It's been a quiet week for me, but my sister sent me a few things from home that have engaged my imagination again. It's a shame the weather is dropping; working with maps make me desperately want to go sailing."
