Last night had almost entirely been filled with cutting and sewing, sewing and cutting, but he had been efficient and industrious, slipping easily into Gwydion mode to get the task done. Sure, the consequences of a poor job were no where near as drastic ( Read more... )

"What poor cow?" asked Alexander, before realizing that Maladicta must have been referring to the scraps of leather he was still in the process of cleaning up, and he could only laugh. "Oh! This. Well, technically, I didn't do anything to the cow; the tanner who made the coat did."

Tanners. Blegh.

Smelled horrid and tasted--well, that was long behind her now. "You sew then?"

Way to make it sound horribly...girly, Maladicta.

Alexander cleared his throat. "I have a lot of experience with mending," he said, feeling that this was only marginally better. "I was helping put together a belt with pouches for a friend. Terribly useful things to know how to make, pouches."

Because she was the complete expert on what was girly, you see. "That's very kind of you, Alexander."

Aww, was Alexander blushing?

Yeah. He totally was. "I suppose," he said. "I don't mind it at all. It was nice to have a project that didn't directly correlate with school work."

"You could sell them," she replied, looking over the materials he was cleaning up. "Make a bit of money."

"Do you think there'd be much of a demand for them?" he wondered. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give it a try at the shop, although, really, what I'm making there now just by being there is still more money than I'm accustomed to."

Clearly, as the very nice silk clothes and fancy ring and other such suggestions of wealth offered.

Being a prince meant he was poor. Duh.

"It's more practical than a purse, at least." Because when a woman thought about carrying things, they wanted practicality.

"And just a bit more manly, too," Alexander snorted. "Would you like me to make you one?"

She could keep little emergency packs of instant coffee in them!

"Can you make one that can carry my thermos?"

Alexander took a moment to consider what sort of modification that might require.

"Sure," he said, nodding, and then gained more confidence. "Definitely. I'll have to root around the shop for what materials might be available, but I could see it working."

"I think I'd like that." There was a pause before she finally managed to broach the subject at hand. Smoothly. With poise. "Have you been to the bar in town before?"

"The bar?" asked Alexander, and then he lightly shook his head. "No, I haven't. Why do you ask?"

"Would you like to come along? I have been thinking about going for some time."

And never doing it.

"Tonight?" Alexander asked, grinning and deciding against teasing her about how that kind of sounded like she was asking him out on a date.
