I don't know if anyone will see this, but it's worth posting for the sake of tossing a message in a bottle.
Being in dark places means . . . You get to see you. You get to see what no one else can see.
I sometimes imagine what other people's dark places look like, what colours and sounds and images abound there.
I also like to imagine what other people's dreams look like, what colours and sounds and images abound there.
Recently, I've had a series of dreams entirely in 8 and 16-bit pixelations; a couple of months ago I had a dream done entirely in anime-style animation. One dream featured that 1980's-difused light and film development you saw in music videos and in shows like 3-2-1 Contact! and Mr. Wizard.
I wonder what people saw in their dreams in the 1910's, before televisions and regular access to movies.
I stand on top of my dark places and let them speak to me. I also listen to my dreams.
Both tell me, there's still more to come.
