I spent the day in Rockville. I was there for a couple short continuing professional education (CPE) classes. I found the place without any trouble and with the exception of a little slow traffic on I-495 the trip there went very smoothly.
Not everything went according to plan. I tore my pants. My cell phone's battery ran low. On the whole it was a good day.
The afternoon was better than the morning. The morning was boring. I yawned several times. I got fidgety. It was mostly lecture with very little Q&A.
The absolute worst was the lady from the DC Department of Taxation. She arrived an hour-and-a-half late, did not apologize for being late, and didn't have reliable answers to any questions. She seemed to be most knowledgeable about her office's holiday schedule. When asked a question her response seemed to fall into one of two categories: that's the IT department's fault or she would get back to she had a chance to consult legal
The other three speakers in the morning weren't great. The first one, who covered taxation in Virginia but wasn't from the government, completely confused me. He talked in short hand and was very hard to follow. The other two speakers were from the state of Maryland. They talked a little more plainly but their recitation of the updates to the tax code made me want to get up and scream. Thank God they didn't go over every single update in the 28 page document they provided to the class.
