I finished off season 3 of Doctor Who. As I wrote before I wasn't too happy with the new version of the Master. I wasn't too pleased with the two-part season finale either. On the whole season 2 was better than season 3. I blame the writing. I can't be any more specific than that. The actors were all good, with one glaring exception: the Master. Its a shame that Martha leaves the Doctor at the end of the season.
One thing that I think helped make season 2 better is how involved the Jackie (Rose's mum) and Mickey (her boyfriend) were in the series. Martha's family showed up in a few episodes but it just weren't the same. I guess I also liked the whole alternate universe thing in season 2. There was nothing like that in season 3. The closest things that comes to mind are first the way the Doctor gave himself amnesia (and then had to count on Martha to look out for him) in episode 8 (The Human Nature) and second how in episode 10 the people in Jenny's life were disappearing into the past (and then showing up minutes later but decades older). Both those episodes were a lot of fun but didn't compare to the best of season 2.
Hopefully season 4 will be better than 3.
