Well I went through the trouble of moving this account, I may as well post something here.

How's that for an enticing intro..

Someone just asked me how things were. I think the long and short of it is that things are great at work, and alternately fun and boring outside of work.

Work is a blast. I get along with virtually everyone in survey, plus most of the more rough-around-the-edges construction guys on site. My boss is good, the other two higher level guys in the office are even better. When me and my co-worker have something to discuss with them, I'm treated as an equal, even though they're older guys with tons of experience, and my co-worker is a legitmate crew chief with a degree. I think they can tell I have a good awareness of what's going on out there, and a good mind for making valuable suggestions regarding procedure and such.

Speaking of my crew chief, he's one of the best I've ever worked with, and I've worked with some good ones. I think I'm a bit biased though, because he's basically me. His name is Dave, he's my sort of height and weight, and what's really strange is we share a mentality almost to a T.

Stop me if this sounds familiar:

Sarcastic, sometimes bitter/cynical
Great sense of humour
Serious and professional with attention to detail when the situation calls for it
Hard working yet easy-going
Generally well liked
A bit of a dork
Late twenties
Loves pop culture references
Wife and 2 kids.

Can you guess which one of the above descriptions we do not share in common?

We crack each other up all the time, yet we also do a damn good job and are a lot more reliable than some of the other people in survey have been, of late. It's a bit funny that just by showing up on time, all the time, and doing our jobs properly without bitching or causing drama, we can be elevated to the level of "go-to crew" but that seems to be the case.

My only complaint about work might be that due largely to the nature of this type of work, things do tend to get a bit repetitive. I have the power to make life interesting for myself, though, by taking on more responsbility, and yet another great thing about my crew chief is that he's perfectly open to training/teaching. I've done some levelling and hand booking of late, and hope to do more soon.

As for the rest of my life, the occasoinal hella fun event dots the schedule.. in between are a lot of nothing evenings in my apartment and early bed times. I couldn't be happier with the apartment; it's pretty much everything I wanted when I started looking.

Still think I should be spending more time outside of it though..

What to do.. what to do..
