You do realise that flinderfreer is also cross-posting all the information (including pictures) for you, and that you can actually leave comments there if you wish to avoid Bloggers "unique" commenting structure...

I'd like to know more about tyre tower potatoes. I've just been growing them in wood boxes on the deck.

It's just a method that allows you to earth up really high (I've never got beyond 4 tyres)and produces quite a lot of clean potatoes. A similar thing is a potato growing bag (which if I have it right you just unroll and fill as the potatoes grow.) Look, basically potatoes fill the area between the root base and the surface with tubers. And on the surface, if they get sunlight, they go green, and not good to eat. So that's why you pile earth around them. And there is a limit to how high unsupported earth will pile.
