Barbs has been with my mum for a few days (back now, TG) and the furkids have been rather all over me. So when La Duchesse was conspicious by her absence last night (and she does things HER way, so this is not surprising, really) I got my nickers in a twist and didn't do a lot of sleeping going out looking for her a couple of times etc. Of course by early morning she was back (if she'd been away... she comes to you when she wants to, and it's a big complicated house and she is a small camo-colored cat.) Did a lot of disjointed thinking. (some of which is posted
here . Did some thinking/worrying about Dragon's Ring and the Amazon Rankings. I try not to look at, but fail. There is an interesting take on the book
here. Funny. I am something of an egalitarian, and a supporter of what I see as the classic tenets of feminism (and Classic Western liberalism actually): equality before the law, equality of opportunity (including of that of education), equality of franchise, equality within societal structures. I'll go to the barricades to establish and defend those things. Yet I'm not comfortable with what I often see in self-proclaimed feminists. You see: I believe we are intelligent, thinking individual humans with different abilities which are not predetermined or limited by sex, skin color or orientation or even by caste or societal indoctination. There are those among us who have risen above these things and many other holdbacks, and are apogee of our species - what we should all aspire to. This is because we have brains to do this thinking. Not penises or vaginas or melanin. And yes. I do know that when testosterone stirs brains switch off. But I do not believe all women are good (and the victims of oppression) just because of their fannys, any more than I believe that all men are bad (and oppressors) because they have balls. I certainly do know a number of women who are who are better people, cleverer, and more able than I am. I also know a few I couldn't say that about. And I promise you, it's their thinking ability that is IMO weak. It's not their sex that makes me think so. Your milage may vary but I have always held that if your race or sex or orientation is all you can find to feel 'superior' about, dude, you're a sad little loser. There is a lot more to a person than just those things.
Well, I guess I am overtired...
