There is a time for the leaving. The Freer family have been granted a visa allowing us to migrate and remain indefinitely in Australia, and Barbs and I have talked about it and we will convert that into citizenship as soon as possible (4 years), as we believe that is the right and honorable thing to do.
I have loved my old country country dearly, and given it much, and tried to make it a country of equals and opportunities for all, as many of my forefathers have before me. Some of my ancestors have lived here for 30 000 years. Others came more recently, but like all humans they were all colonists once. And we can and will do it again.
It's time to look forward, and not back. We never left the dream of rainbow nation. It has left us and lost the dream, so now it is time to go and be part of another. One where we treasure the values, and are valued in turn.
There is a time for the leaving. A time for remembering and a time for tears. A time for sadness at what might of been.
But mostly a time to look forward.
