Unexpected encounters in Wales.

It was an early start Tuesday morning, as I had to get myself over to the factory in Llantrisant. The alarm went off at 5am, but it took a little while to get the motivation up to leave bed and face the world. I took it easy, and the first stage was to face LJ before attempting anything too strenuous.... As usual, I was going down well laden with stuff. This time it was one laptop bag, one bag with overnight stuff, a box containing a laser, one box crammed with random laser accoutrements and one containing something needing fixed. If I didn’t leave rather early, I’d be a great source of regular amusement, leaving the house with my pile of boxes I can hardly see over with bags strapped to be, hoping I manage to find where the top of the steps are in the usual manner, and not by missing the first one and tumbling down them.

The rain had barely started as I left Coventry, but spent the entire journey down getting heavier and heavier. I seem to be getting into a habit of waving on the way past junction 7 as I go these days. It is done with a big grin on my face. Got there eventually, by which time it was coming down stair-rods.

Got in, settled, and then took advantage of the mid-morning breakfast from the canteen. N, who was with me in Canada last week, made some comments about not wanting to get between me and the possibility of bacon after seeing how enthusiastic I usually was about breakfast whilst over there.

Some useful conversations were had, and we seemed to mostly get on top of the issue that I came down about. The other advantage of being down there is that I seem to do a better job of being able to block out distractions and get on with things that have been sitting waiting to be done for some time. The big win was getting a whole slew of stuff into the parts database.

Earlier that day, when I checked LJ before leaving, I was quite excited to see an entry from quisalan who was in Wales doing some training for the day. Around lunchtime I’d left her a couple of messages, and as I was parking in at the hotel I’m staying in I got a call from her, wanting directions so we could meet up for a bit J. The place I was staying is hardly any distance from the motorway, so she was practically driving past the door. I told her how to get here, and then threw myself in the shower to get rid of any traces of database before she arrived. She quickly had a nose around the room when she got in, and then we moved towards one of the hotel bars. There was a couple of hours of catching up, gossip, and chatting about where our lives were taking us which was all good. We did decide we were rubbish, given how far apart we live, that we ended up meeting up somewhere random in the Welsh countryside. Definitely perked up what would have been an otherwise rather boring evening.
