On Friday after a bit of sorting it out, I left work early, grabbed camera gear from home, and rushed down to London to see Apocalyptica play. On the way to the Forum I bumped into d_floorlandmine who was loitering around the pub. I chatted for a little while and then we went inside to ignore the end of the support act. They were not very exciting, and we were finding more fun was to be had in the cloakroom queue.

Once my coat was finally out of the way I wandered down, bumping into a few people I'd not seen for a while, and coming to rest near the front beside erming. Didn't have that long to chat before I squished forward into the photopit for the main act.

As ever, Apocalyptica were excellent. There is something extremely entertaining about watching them hammer away on their cellos, windmilling hair as they do it. The gig was a good mix of older and newer stuff. I have to admit that I do like a lot of the older stuff, as it becomes something of a karaoke session. They don't have a singer in the band after all, so the audience just has to make up for it by singing along to the songs that do have lyrics. Apocalyptica do have some of their own songs that have lyrics, but they are only ever sung by guest vocalists, so again the audience has to step in to fill the void. I do approve of all this sing-along business.

They have a good mix of on-stage dynamic. Two are very enthusiastic, and bounce around lots. Another is a bit more reserved, and the last cellist is very cool, sitting behind his shades, calmly playing away. They also sit on the coolest chairs!

I must remember quite how fantastic they are, and that I should keep going to all their gigs. More photos should arrive once I whittle down from the selection I've got at the moment (Which is probably far too many to put up)
