man, you should read into the cuban revolution. it is truly an amazing area of history to behold. most people hate castro simply because our president so ignorantly calls him a "tyrant who imprisons everyone on that island" when in fact the majority of the population supports the revolutionary effort. if 70 percent of the population is behind the regime, then no matter what his policies are, i'm not going to call him a dictator who imprisons his citizens.

also, although people may not agree with his idealogical efforts, he is still one of the most principled men around today. and being principled is something i've found to be archaic in today's day and age... and just for that i admire him. anyone who puts their life on the line and wholly devotes themself to a cause, is admirable.

see, most people hate me right off the bat for being fond of the guy.

what suprised me most about him was how much of a better leader he was than Fulgencio Batista. The U.S. only favored Batista because he held mock elections, making it look like he was running the country like a democracy. When in reality, he was working with gangsters like Meyer Lanksy, who would murder the opposition. Once Castro came into power, people thought he was a hero because he was helping return power to the poor. It wasn't until the Soviet Union fell that people began losing faith in him.

Reading into this made me realize why my family hates Castro. My great grandfather was one of Batista's political puppets, who lost his fortune when Castro came into power.

certainly wasn't proletariat... no offense to you at all, but the exile community here in florida certainly bothers me... not all of them but those who decidedly left with their fortunes... it shows a lack of character and backbone in my opinion.

but basically those who left were the wealthy land-owners or entrepreneurs that would have or did lose their fortune in the revolution. and, alot of the time the ones who were exploiting the poor, in cahoots with batista.

well, this is all very interesting but i have to leave for work.

see, that makes castro WORSE than bautista. everyone knew bautista was a puppet idiot. the people had no secrets about him. but what castro did was even worse. we rode in on the wave of popular change, promising changes and help to the poorer people. but what did castro really EVER do to change how the poor of cuba lived? hes murdered anyone and everyone who went against him, just like bautista. but what made castro worse was that he did it all in the name of the people.

ohh you mean that 70% approval rating poll which CASTRO himself put out? wow. thats really believable. you know, someone who personally controls the press and tells them to write whatever he wants really puts out an honest approval rating for the world to see.

how about no to anyone who likes castro. they honestly dont know what theyre talking about.

so yeah, he does imprison his people and he does murder kill and oppress them when they are against him. yeah dude, what a great role model.
