Today is the first day of the new year. In the spirit of new year resolutions im determined to make a better go of keeping this journal. Apologies to everyone on my f-list, its been a busy few months, so I havent been around. Hopefully will be posting more this time, honest! 2006 has been a pretty good year for me. Ive managed to finally get into the final year of my degree (5 years instead of 3!) and so far its going pretty good. Fencing wise, I have been made Captain of the University Mens 1st team. I have yet to achieve a national ranking (need to come in the top 64 at an Open to get points) but that is something I can work on this year. The team has been doing pretty well, we narrowly last to both Cardiff and Exeter (which I will admit was probably my fault as I could have done a better job of selecting the team) but we beat the Mens 2nd team, Swansea and Plymouth Universities, leaving us in 3rd place in the league with only Newport Uni to fence. Cadets has been pretty busy, a recruiting drive has seen us go from an average of 12 cadets a night, to over 20 night. Its not quite the minimum of 30, but its in the right direction. In the past year ive qualified as a First Aid Instructor, as well as a shooting coach, which has enabled me to run even more activites for the cadets.
Big news of 2006 is that my twin brother is now engaged to his girlfriend of almost 3 years. Their wedding is planned for the 9th August 2008, so some time to go yet, but I get to be "best man", so I'd better start planning that speech! Im still with my gorgeous girlfriend Heather. It will have been 2 years at the end of this month since we started dating, and as for wedding plans (as everyone keeps telling me Im now behind my brother!) we'll just have to wait and see.
Went round to Heather's friend Ben's house, for a new year's eve party. Was pretty cool, and had a really good time. The "dance-off" was hilarious, especially the look on Ben's face. He was like a kid in a candy shop. Spent this morning regretting the amount of wine I had drunk last night, probably not the best start to a new year, but hopefully it will be a good one.
